Migrants and Refugees

Our goal is to promote open-mindedness and tolerance in all areas of culture and international understanding, in particular the promotion of convergence and European integration in Germany and Europe.
Hereby we commit ourselves to the improvement of the legal, social, economic and family situation of refugees living in Leipzig. Refugees from different cultures shall receive qualified social support.

Counseling

We counsel on the following fields:

  • First orientation
  • Education and work
  • Family and childcare
  • Residence law issues

Target group:

Migrants and refugees who have recently arrived in Leipzig and need a first orientation.

Open office hours:

  • Tuesday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Languages:

We counsel in German, English, Italian and French.

The counseling service is free of charge!


Migrants in Leipzig

In Leipzig live about 70.000 foreigners and refugees (1 ° January 2017), which corresponds to 6.5% of the population.
According to the Office for Statistics of the City of Leipzig 4.000 refugees have applied for asylum at the end of February 2017. Most of them came from Syria, with a share of 339 unaccompanied minors.

    • Research, exchange of best practices, strategic partnerships on migration issues
    • Women empowerment
    • In cooperation with certified educational institutions in Saxony, Schulhaus offers short, voluntary internships or job shadowing for migrants.
    • Counseling for migrants and refugees
